Get clues about your stability with the single-leg stance test.
You’ll need a sturdy chair and a way to track time (stopwatch, clock, or counting).
As you age, maintaining balance becomes critical so you can stay steady and avoid falls. In this video, SilverSneakers Trainer Julie will show you how to do a quick balance test.
Stand beside your chair with feet spread hip-distance apart. Lift one foot off the floor and start timing. Hold your foot up for as long as you comfortably can. Stop the clock when your foot touches the floor, you need to reach for your chair, or when you lose your balance. Then, lift the opposite leg and start the test again.
