Too busy to exercise? Not anymore! Make fitness a habit with a week of short, fun at-home workouts.
A short walk here, a lunge there. They add up.
Ideally, you’d get 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise and two days of strength training every week. But the latest fitness guidelines also say any amount of activity—even five, 10, or 15 minutes, if that’s what you can manage—can help. For older adults, including those with chronic conditions, it’s most important to just get moving and avoid inactivity.
And get this: Research suggests that short bouts of exercise throughout the day may actually add up to greater health benefits that doing one long workout. After all, the more frequently you move, the more often you can benefit from that movement.
That’s why we’ve created the Get Fit Fast Challenge. This week is all about making your workouts work for you!
How the Get Fit Fast Challenge Works
Each day, SilverSneakers LIVE instructor Sims Corbett will guide you through fast, fun video workouts to help you build heart health, strength, flexibility, and mobility.
Here’s an overview:
- Day 1: Unlock Your Flexibility and Mobility
- Day 2: 8-Minute Circuit Strength
- Day 3: The Quick, Effective All-Steps Workout
- Day 4: Ease Your Exercise Pain
- Day 5: 10-Minute Heart Health Workout
- Day 6: Exercise for Everyday Life
- Day 7: Find Your Balance Workout
All you need are some light weights like dumbbells or water bottles, a chair, and open floor space. Some exercises are shown performed on the floor, but if you prefer, you can use any flat, stable surface. If you’d like support during any of the exercises, set up near a wall. It’s also helpful to have water, and you should feel free to sip as you need.
As always, safety is key. The exercises here may be different or more advanced than those you’ll experience in a SilverSneakers class. If you have a chronic condition, an injury, or balance issues, talk to your doctor about how you can exercise safely.
How to Join the Get Fit Fast Challenge
It’s free to participate in the Get Fit Fast Challenge, and it’s open to SilverSneakers members and non-members. The more the merrier, so invite friends and family if you want.
There’s no signup for the challenge. You can jump in or catch up whenever you want, and you can even repeat your favorite workouts.
