When it comes to healthy, happy living, strength matters. Strength is what lets you take stairs with ease, get down on the floor to play with your grandkids, and keep up with your hobbies. Research even shows it’s a leading predictor of overall health and longevity.

Fortunately, it doesn’t take a lot of time—or even equipment—to make a meaningful investment in your strength. In this video, SilverSneakers LIVE instructor Sims Corbett will show you how to strengthen your entire body with a quick at-home workout.

If by the end of the short workout, you’re feeling tired or ready to get on with you day, that’s great. You’ve already done something amazing for your strength, fitness, and health. But if you want to keep going, repeat the circuit for up to three rounds. Between rounds, rest for 1 to 2 minutes or until your heart rate has returned to its resting rate and you’re no longer breathing heavily.

How the 8-Minute Circuit Strength Works

All you need is some open floor space, a chair, and a pair of light weights, such as dumbbells or water bottles. If you’d like support during any of the exercises, set up near a wall or keep the chair nearby. It’s also helpful to have water, and you should feel free to sip as you need.

To keep tabs on your effort, use a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the hardest. For maximum results, work at an intensity that feels challenging, but doable. You can ramp up or dial down as you need, but you shouldn’t need to go any higher than 7. As you move, keep breathing, and prioritize good form.
