What are the requirements for becoming a SilverSneakers Instructor?

How can the fitness location where I work become a contracted location for the SilverSneakers Fitness Program?
Please have your fitness location fill out a fitness center submission under the “Fitness Center” tab to be considered.
I registered for a workshop and need to cancel my registration.
SilverSneakers has a “no refund” policy for canceling instructor training workshops.
How do I order more equipment for my fitness center?
Please contact your account manager for equipment orders for your participating location.
How can I get directions to the workshop(s) I am registered for?
Call the hosting facility for directions or lodging recommendations.
Can I attend an upcoming workshop or workshops without having a National Certificate or current CPR card?
Yes, but we do require that have a current CPR card before teaching SilverSneakers.
Can I attend the YogaStretch:Part II or YogaStretch: Part III workshop without attending YogaStretch first?
Yes, but we do recommend that you attend the next YogaStretch workshop that is scheduled in your area.
Can I teach the SilverSneakers classes before attending a training workshop offered by SilverSneakers?
No, you must attend a SilverSneakers workshop before you start teaching even if you have a current CPR card and a recognized national certificate or degree in the industry.
Are any SilverSneakers workshops offered online?
No, all of our workshops are held at contracted fitness locations.
Do I need to bring anything with me to a workshop?
Please bring a copy of your current CPR card (if valid) and/or a copy of any national certificates you hold.
Do I need to wear my swimsuit to the SilverSplash workshop?
Please bring your swimsuit and a towel as you will be participating in a SilverSplash class in the pool.
Do I need to take the online exam before I start teaching?
No, the online exam is just for those instructors wanting to obtain the Healthways Instructor Accreditation for Older Adult Exercise.
If I do not currently hold a national certificate, do I have to complete the Healthways accreditation before I can teach SilverSneakers?
No, you are just required to complete all requirements for the Healthways Accreditation within one year of teaching the SilverSneakers Fitness Program.
If a SilverSneakers Instructor Training Workshop has met its capacity, is there a wait list I can be added to?
Yes, please e-mail register@silversneakers.com to add your information to the wait list. Please include your full name, e-mail address, phone number and the full name of the fitness location you represent in order to be placed on the waiting list. Once a spot on the registration list has opened up, we will contact you.
I currently do not see any instructor training workshops scheduled in my area for all of 2010. Will you have any more scheduled in my area?
lease check the calendar monthly as the workshop calendar online is updated with new workshops on a daily basis.
My fitness location is allowed to send two free instructors to the MSROM workshop. How do I enter that into the computer?
Make sure to list your correct fitness location that you represent during the registration process and the Web site will automatically allow the first two instructors from that location to register for free.
Once I complete the Healthways Instructor Accreditation for Older Adult Exercise, will I receive a certificate?
Your accreditation card will be sent to you in the mail within 60 days of completing all requirements.
One of my SilverSneakers members is interested in becoming a sub for me in the future. Can a SilverSneakers member also teach the class?
Yes, your member can attend the instructor training workshops to become an instructor or substitute at a contracted fitness location. Please refer to the "Instructor Requirements" page of this Web site for more information.
The PayPal link is not working at the bottom of my confirmation registration e-mail that was sent to, how do I go about paying now?
Please log back under the Instructor Resource Center and click on the link “Online Registration Workshop History." Locate the workshop(s) you are trying to pay for and click on "View Receipt/Pay Now." That will take you to your receipt that has the active PayPal link located at the bottom.
