SilverSneakers® Steps is utilized as a rural alternative for eligible constituents who reside 15 miles or more from a participating fitness center. It is self-directed, aligned with participants' lifestyles and not specifically oriented toward one activity, thus allowing individuals to engage in the activity of their choice and encouraging greater frequency. Steps provides an additional opportunity to motivate, engage and maintain a member's healthy lifestyle activities.
Although the SilverSneakers Steps program is pedometer-based, it is not just about walking. Other activities such as fishing, gardening, golf and playing with grandchildren can easily be converted to steps for physical activity tracking. Studies have shown that wearing a pedometer is an effective way to increase awareness of one's daily physical activity, thereby providing continued encouragement to be more active. Learn More... |
